Projects, punch, and pops!

This week we were very excited to wrap up our first novel and watch the movie Because of Winn-Dixie. We were able to compare and contrast the book and the movie, as well as  work on an interview project that helped us learn ten new things about a classmate-just like Opal learned about Winn-Dixie! We celebrated with our very own Dump Punch and lollipops for the Litmus Lozenge in the story. In Math this week we reviewed double digit addition and played a speed game with our 2,3,and 4 times tables. Three winners from each class who completed their facts with in five minutes received a prize. I am hopeful to give everyone a prize when we return from break, so keep up that review! We also continued adding writing entries in our portfolios responding to topics from the novel. Please send in the next novel, The The Thing About Georgie, with your child on October 11th. We will begin prediction and introduction activities as soon as we return.

Today we were thrilled to kick off our Read to Succeed Read-a-Thon with a pep rally. Our first activity was a huge success, as we read books and stories to our EC3 friends. Our  page count was over 600 pages! In third grade we will be trying to reach a goal of 7,000 pages for the month of October. I know we can do it!! I will be tracking the class at school but your child will be bringing home an additional reading log each week to keep a tally of their at home pages. If your child turns in this form initialed by you each week their name will be entered into a drawing to win a free book. In addition, the top reader from each class will receive a 15$ gift card to Barnes and Nobel. And their homework reading can count towards their tally each week-so keep reading!! I will post the reading log on Edline if your child would like to get a head start!

Have a wonderful break!!
